They contain Mercury. So if your not disposing them properly you are creating a New Problem. They need to be recycled. Also if you break them at home becareful with clean up.

1. These bulbs can die quickly if swiched on for short periods of time.
2. They can have component failure that can start a fire, or at least create a smoke problem.
3. They contain mercury, so if broken you have a worse environmental condition.
4. Some do not work in cold environments.
5. They can emit an annoying hum and interfere with electronic radio equipment.

How is this better than the good old incandescent bulb which experiences NONE of these problems?

Oops, I forgot. The almighty government is going to force us to switch to CFLs by 2012, whether we want to or not. It doesn’t matter that they experience these problems, because we all must stop using those atmospheric-destroying bulbs. I really should stop being such a holocaust denier and agree to whatever Al Gore says since he knows more (as a former vice president) than all the scientists with thier PHD’s do about the environment.

Let me contemplate this as I talk to my friends on my mercury-filled cell phone while driving my gas-guzzling truck to my house powered by a coal-burning power plant with all my 100-billion watt light bulbs on so I can take a HOT shower with hot water from my old style 100 trillion btu GAS water heater.

You are WAY too quick to judge other people’s lives. At least they’re trying to make a difference and share positive opinions. Talking about what’s wrong with the bulbs is fine, however judging their lives when you know nothing about them isn’t.

Also while Al Gore won a Nobel Piece Prize he is a PUBLIC SPEAKER and an activist; neither of those things qualifies him to be called an environmental genius so while he may work hard he IS NOT a scientist and has not spent 8+ in a college or university studying as diligently as many scientists do.

Again, way too quick to go on the offense. I’m not going to say to say that Hayden Panettiere (a celebrity Save The Whales activist) knows more about whales than a marine biologist. It just sounds like you’re overestimating how much these celebrities know.

And I just re-read what you said, oops.

My first paragraph still applies though.
