I was there from '93-'95 when the base was closed. Such a shame, would have been there for a couple more years. Have any of you been back to see the island?

I was there from 91-95 (when the base closed)- so from 4th to 7th grade. I still have the last yearbook stuffed somewhere I'm sure. I went back 5/6 years ago and the island is still beautiful but the base is far gone.

I was there from 85' to 93'. Went from kindergarden to the 7th grade at Roger B. Chaffee. My family moved to hawaii during the summer of 93' after I finished the 7th grade. I had class' with Katie, but I am not sure if I did with anyone else here. Does anyone here know if we had any class' together?

I was there from 88-92 with my sis, Katie. I went back in the spring of 94 when they had already started reducing personnel on base. Havent been back since but I hope to get out there soon.

My sister's are closer to everyone in this groups ages. Jessica and Brandy Peterson. We were there from I believe 1984 or 1985 until '89. I was always with Gretchen Hasselbring, Mercedes, Christie Easton, Jesse (red headed boy), Jon Despard, hmmm...so long ago! I kept in touch randomly with a few of them but not anything recently. The teacher's that I can remember were Mrs. Blessing in second grade and Mrs. Ristow in third. OH OH OH and AWFUL Ms. Francis in 4th. None of you probably remember her though since that was her first and LAST year at Chaffee. All of our mothers got together and had her fired she was such a troll! LoL! Ugh, do you remember that horrid hill we had to walk down (AND BACK UP!!!) near the playground to get to the lunch room?! DREADED it! Ha ha, or the bulls by the swing sets?! How random!

Risa,

I must have been in some of your class' in elementary school. I was in Mrs. Blessing's 2nd grade class and Mrs. Francis in the 4th. I do remember how awful she was. Especially since she would never alow us to use our pencil erasers. I remember her pulling out her razor and cutting of my erasers on many occasions. It was wierd reading your post and seeing the names of Gretchen, Mercedes, Christie, Jesse and Jon. I haven't heard those names since my family moved in 93'. I do remember having a huge crush on Mercedes, but then so did most of the boys.

UGH! Ms. Francis was ABSOLUTELY dreadful! You must have been in atleast my 4th grade because it was the last year that she taught since most of the mom's got together and comlpained so much she was finally booted. EW!, I remember her forever tormenting us! She would get SO pissy with me because someone would do something that would make me laugh and her screaming at me would make it totally worse! I couldn't stop! So of course I got way yelled at! I know that I started a year late so you would have still been 2 yrs. behind me how could you possibly have been in my classes?! That's too funny, EVERY guy had a thing for miss Mercedes! Not sure how she turned out but I do know that then she was a little hottie for sure!

OMG! I remember that hill! I think I have a picture of it somewhere...
I was there the same time you were there. I had Ms.Pavlak for 2nd, can't remember 3rd, and Ms. Francis for 4th. And I agree! Ms. Francis SUCKED!!! Hey, weren't we in girl scouts together? You, me, Gretchen, Mercedes, Lindsay, Kimberly, Amy and more but I can't think of them. I know there were more. Brownies to girl scouts. Gretchen's mom was a scout leader.

Do any of you remember "Cinderella?" Thanks to that play, I know all the songs to the movie. My son loves watching "cinderelli"!

Oh! Who remembers this... I got the wind knocked out of me on the playground one day. I was getting off the seesaw and someone was getting on. They sat so fast it flipped me off the darn thing! I miss those days!!

LOL!!! I remember the eraser thing!! That's hilarious that we would remember something that stupid. And what I remember most about her was that I always thought she was missing her pinky toe because of the type of shoes she wore.

Mercedes was a very pretty girl! I don't know exactly what she looks like now, but I'm sure she looks the same! Her parents were fitness nuts if I remember correctly! She's on myspace and so is her bro Rocco.

Yeah, I guess we were in brownies and girl scouts together huh?! Some of the most fun I had growing up were our camping trips and stuff. Remember always having to make our little coffee can burners to cook on??? Ha ha ha. I do remember "cinderelli" too. It's funny how much starts to come back to you after actually taking the time to think about it and being reminded a little of course! I hate to think that I have forgotten all of these things because I am so much older now! LoL. That's too funny, you thought she didn't have a little toe.....I thought she never wore underwear because she would always sit with her fat little knees spread eagle under that desk. It was a very disturbing thought! Ha ha ha. I don't recall who I was with but I remember going to watch "SpaceBalls" at the little movie theater on base and seeing Ms. Francis grading papers like 2 rows ahead of us, not even paying attn. to the movie! She always reaked of cigarette smoke and those awful cough drops she would eat like candy.

Hello, It is so fun to read about all your memories. Gretchen Hasselbring's brother Tim was in my class 89-92. I know Tim still lives in Bermuda. Did you know the Leo's? Brian, Kevin and Megan. If you want to get in touch with Gretchen I can ask Tim.

I believe Gretchen still lives in Bermuda as well. She has a page on MySpace but hasn't gone to it in forever. If you still are in touch with Tim and remember, definitely mention that a few of us are trying to get ahold of her. Maybe she'll check the msgs. some of us have left for her and get in touch with us from there.

OMG! I totally forgot about the cough drops. Ewww....yucky memories!!! Wow, all of a sudden I can hear her smacking that drop in her mouth while trying to teach a lesson. Gross. Wasn't she always wearing mu-mu's?

Do you remember going to that spooky fort on one of our camping trips? The older kids were inside trying to scare us. I almost peed in my pants that night. I remember the s'mores... I always burnt my marshmallows. I loved those camping trips. They were the best!!

Gretchen went to Notre Dame, but I'm not sure if she graduated. She was a smart cookie so I wouldn't doubt it. Her parents owned a house right outside of the base when I was last there. I remember going to her house to hang out and swim at that lagoon they had at the end of the road. Gretchen was never afraid to dive right in, but I was always scared that I might step on a sea urchin... I miss Bermuda.

Didn't that big hill between the cafeteria and the playground have a big whale painted on it or something?
