I'm in the process of trying to get the Parks & rec dept. interested in the idea of a set of rings in Austin. I really hope this goes through cause it would be an amazing addition to the city.

That's cool. If you do get them, you'll be the best out there.

But if any of us come to visit, you'll have some competition. :) I really do hope that you're able to get them set up. It would be more success for the rings!!

It seems like getting rings here in Austin might be harder than I thought. The park & rec office says they need more of a following or interest other than just one person like me trying to organize this. They need to know that they won't be wasting park space and money I guess. Any ideas on how to get people into it here without having a set in place?

You might have some luck wtih going to some gymnastics schools or gyms and letting them know all about it, as well as any acrobatic schools. Stunt people, etc.
If you get a enough people excited about it, they will back you up to get it set up there. You can start a petition and if these people get interested, you can have them sign it to say that they want a set there and they will involve themselves to use it.

yep...you know what i did? A friend here invited me to a rock climbing gym and while i was there I realized that everyone there would love the rings. I happened to have my computer on hand and started showing people a clip I had and talking it up. They all loved it!! I got emails and I'll start emailing them so they can in-turn email all their friends that would support the idea. Once this chain grows large enough I'll take my online petition to the city and show them that people here in Austin would be into it. I'll also go to a gymnastics academy and do the same thing. Glad to hear the rings are back up, I hope they swing well.

Any progress with getting rings in Austin, looks like I am moving back to Texas and I am losing the rings. Hit me with a message on anything (if there is anything) I can do to help bring them there.

Hey guys, just found the group through swing a ring... I started swingin' when i was in LA for school, but I'm an Austin native so I'll do my best to plug the rings with all the homies. You should get word out in the Chronicle and maybe even set up some photos on the hike and bike trail on the weekend! I have been thinking how wicked it would be to have a set of rings in Zilker park for soo long now, man! Keep fighting the good fight!

I’m now in Michigan. My stay in Austin was brief due to always being on the road and promoting the band. I’m no longer having to deal with that and have focused on proposing a set in Farmington hills, MI at a OCC, Oakland Community College. I hope someone else tries for Austin, it would be a perfect place for the rings!
